After it was announced by game director Hideaki Itsuno in 2022, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is finally upon us. 2024 has already seen the release of one fantastic action RPG with Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Hopefully, this game can keep the train going.

It’s been more than a decade since the first Dragon’s Dogma came out in 2012. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen came out in 2013, but that was more of an expansion pack than a fully-fledged release. After a wait that long, the fandom’s excitement for a new release is understandable. Read on to find out just when is Dragon’s Dogma 2 coming out.

Is Dragons Dogma 2 A Sequel, Prequel, Or A Remake?

The answer is a little more complicated than you think. While it may seem like a remake, in reality, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is set in a parallel universe to the first game.

Plotwise, the game is strikingly similar to its predecessor. You play as the Arisen, an adventurer marked by a Dragon. Being marked by the Dragon proves to be both a blessing and a curse since it grants the Arisen special powers, but is now destined to face the Dragon in a fight to the death.

That’s exactly what the plot of the first game is. There are probably going to be some changes here and there, but the main storyline is basically the Arisen’s journey to beating the Dragon that marked them.

Gameplay – Slaying Monsters With Pawns

If you’re unfamiliar with the first Dragon’s Dogma game, it’s what you get if a Monster Hunter game became single-player and open-world. The second game aims to perfect this formula.

Explore the kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl, complete quests, and hunt down dangerous monsters using your preferred skills. Your weapons and abilities will depend on your Vocation. Pick from a wide selection of Vocations such as Archer, Assassin, Warrior, and Mage; each one dedicated to specific weapon types and gameplay styles.

Now, you might be wondering how a single-player Monster Hunter-type game might work. The whole point of those games is to team up with other players and use the variety of weapons and skills each of you have to slay giant monsters.

Just because it’s a single-player game, doesn’t mean you’re alone. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is bringing back the Pawn system.

Pawns are AI-controlled allies that will assist you in your adventuring and combat. You will have one personal Pawn that you can customize to compliment your playstyle.

You can recruit 2 more Pawns, but they’re not just some randomly generated characters. The pawns you recruit will be the personal Pawns made by other players around the world. According to the official website, your Pawn will change and adapt according to their experiences with you and any other players who would recruit them.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will feature dozens of monsters, from Minotaurs to Ogres and Hobgoblins. Keep a balanced group of Pawns, and you should be able to beat all of them in your own way.
