In June 2022, Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone confirmed that update 1.6 was in development for the game. At the time he downplayed the version stating it was only aimed at allowing easier and more powerful mods, and that there would be little new content in comparison to previous updates. However, as the years have gone by, the situation now is the complete opposite.
A plethora of content including new festivals, dialog lines, cosmetics, and more has been confirmed. This might be the biggest version of the game yet. Here’s everything we know so far about Stardew Valley update 1.6 and it’ll be about.
When Is The Stardew Valley 1.6 Update Coming Out?
The Stardew Valley 1.6 update will be released sometime in 2024. An exact date hasn’t been announced yet but Eric Barone has reassured fans that the update is on track for this year, so any delays are unlikely.
Follow-up posts by Eric on X have revealed that the update became much larger over the course of its development. He and his team didn’t plan on adding new content but somewhere during all this time “1.6 ended up being a little larger in scope than originally planned”. That said, it’s finally coming this year, so we’re in the final stretch.

What’s New In Stardew Valley 1.6 Update?
Eric has kept fans in the loop about the new features coming in the Stardew Valley 1.6 update. For now, we’ve been given a sneak peek at what’s to come but what was revealed still looks like plenty.
That’s definitely not a small update.
New Festivals, Recipes, Outfits, Farm Type, Bigger Multiplayer, And Lots More
New major and mini festivals, recipes, outfits, dialog, and end-game quests are apparently being added. Skills will be expanded too, so you can expect to see more Professions. Multiplayer for Stardew Valley 1.6 will also support up to 8 players instead of the previous limit of 4.
Another one of the additions is a brand new farm type. This is big news since you can only choose one type of farm per playthrough, and with a new farm being added, this will incentivize playing the game all over again.
The best part is, this is simply a portion of what’s in store and the actual Stardew Valley 1.6 update will be much larger in comparison. Interestingly, the sneak peek didn’t mention any modding, even though that’s what Eric previously said would be the main focus of this update, so you can bet that modding is going to get a massive upgrade as well.

Will There Be Updates Beyond 1.6 For Stardew Valley?
You can’t really say what the future holds for Stardew Valley. It’s a legendary game, however, it’s being developed by mainly Eric Barone and with some help from one or two other people. Before the Stardew Valley 1.6 update was announced, Eric said that he was working on a new game called Haunted Chocolatier.

Similar to Stardew Valley, Haunted Chocolatier would be another simulation game but one that would be based around the confectionery store theme. You could say Haunted Chocolatier will be a spiritual successor. Eric also mentioned he’d be taking a break from developing Haunted Chocolatier until the 1.6 update for Stardew Valley launched.
In that context, once version 1.6 arrives, Eric and his small team will likely resume production on Haunted Chocolatier. As for what awaits Stardew Valley, maybe we’ll get another major update but definitely nothing noticeable in the next 2-3 years.
